Heated In

Oh where, oh where has this summer gone?
Oh where, oh where could it be?
With its days too humid and its heat too long
Oh where, oh where could it be?

I don't know about you, but I feel like this summer is gone, gone gone.  Poof!  Vanished!  We've barely been to the pool or the lake -- it has just been too dang hot!  Hot, like over-100-degrees-day-after-day kind of hot.  We've ended up passing way too many afternoons (and mornings and evenings for that matter) at home because it's ridiculously hot to even leave the house.  NOTE: I am not lying.  The pictures below were all taken last summer.

It's the same effect of being snowed in, only we've been "heated in."  At least you don't have to call a snowplow or shovel the driveway, but the effect is the same.  Even cooling down the car is a daunting task, and the metal is too hot for Sam to even touch.  Yesterday I was sure that the steering wheel was going to downright scald me.

I've never been in a climate where it is just too hot to go to the pool.  Never say never because now I have.  Too hot to go to the pool?  It sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?  Unfortunately it's not.  And the sun feels as strong as what you'd experience in an African desert.  (Not that I've actually been to one, but I have read about it in Encyclopedia Brown back in the day.)

Sunday is August 1st, and I feel like summer hasn't even started yet.  Well, at least tomorrow it is going to be brisk, only in the mid-90s.  Time to break out the parka!
