Sam and I are here in the Cayman Islands, "roughing it" if you will, all in the name of travel writing. Yesterday we went to the Cayman Islands Turtle Farm which is a really neat place and completely unique. It's a sprawling 23-acre marine adventure park filled with 11,000 green sea turtles! They breed the turtles here in mass quantity from eggs to these humungous creatures that can weigh up to 600 pounds. Whoa, Nelly! Wouldn't want this guy to step on your toe! To keep the population thriving, they also control the sales of turtles for human consumption on the island.

We got to get into the wading tank filled with the baby turtles who have yet to develop teeth. (Handy!) Sam got to hold a baby turtle.
Then I decided to check "picking up a turtle in the Cayman Islands" off my bucket list. Done!
Here are some turtles who are old enough to have real teeth. We'll let the pro handle that big boy!
They also have an awesome freshwater water park/lagoon with a really cool moat, a hard-core waterfall that you can climb behind, and a fun water slide.
By the end of our turtle tour, I was feeling bad about the turtle soup that I had ordered at lunch at Breakers Snack Shack when we first arrived. It's really hot and humid here, especially during the day, so it wasn't soup weather at all. (It's the Caribbean after all!) I had been curious to try it, so a few of us each had a bite. FYI -- it tastes very similar to beef. I'll be skipping the turtle burger!
Instead I'll stick to mammoth scallops like these! At least scallops aren't at all endangered.
Plus scallops taste like scallops!
