Sam's Got a Buddy

Sam's got his first real buddy, an energetic little guy named Trent.  Sam pronounces it "Frent" which, ironically enough, sounds just like a merger of "friend" and "Trent."  Of course, his mother Larissa and I have been fostering this friendship since before they were born, literally. We met through our Mothers Club when we were both eight months pregnant, feeling large and in charge.  We quickly realized that we had an awful lot in common -- both having our first, a boy, with due dates within days of each other.

We ended delivering up just a day apart, at the same hospital no less.  However, our symbiotic paths soon diverged.  When Larissa stopped by my hospital room before checking out, I noticed with much chagrin that she was ALREADY SKINNY.  I tried my best to forgive her for leaving me high and dry in Fat Land, fielding such questions as "when are you due?" even eight weeks after delivery.

Anyway, back to Sam and Frent.  When they see each other, they are both so excited and start walking along holding hands.  I know I'm biased being one of the mommies and all, but it is so very cute.  After not interacting for the last two-and-a-half years at their "playgroups," they actually truly like each other.  Woo hoo!  Jackpot!

They still look quite a bit alike with blondish hair and blue eyes.  Sam is super duper tall for his age, and Frent is on the smaller side, but Frent is unquestionably the leader.  If there is a ride-on toy around, Sam immediately hops on as the passenger, and Frent takes charge driving him around.

Frent also comes up with great ideas like running away at the mall or horsing around at the back of the room during story hour.  And he's off.  Then Sam gets a crazy look in his eye and lopes off in hot pursuit, giggling the whole time like "this is going to be fun!"  I know I'm not supposed to laugh and encourage this naughty behavior, but I can't help myself.  Bernie and I are already laughing about the duo getting into trouble in high school, carousing around town. Hopefully by then I'll finally have the disapproving look down.
